Why Start a Blog in 2025?

February 2, 202511 min read

If you’re like a lot of people, I know (I say this because they’ve asked me), and you’re wondering how to start a blog, why you should start a blog, or you want to make some extra cash on the side because you want to be more like your friend that travels a lot (yes, that’s me, I’m that friend), then keep reading because I want to talk about many of the reasons you should start a blog today, even in 2025, even in the rise of AI, even with all that competition out there.

But First, Let’s Address A Few of These Questions Up Front

If you’re over 40 and want to start a blog, do it. You are not too old. It’s never too late to start.

Start generating income now, and as you approach retirement age, why not get your money-making machine up and running well beforehand? Having a plan B is always a good idea.

Even if, let’s say, you have a great job but you get laid off, you can rely on your blog to make you money while you look for another job, or in some cases, your blog can be your full-time job, and replace your income altogether.

Is Blogging Dead Due to AI? What About All the AI Content Out There?

As great as AI-generated content is, and let’s face it, it’s pretty good, it lacks real human experience. And people always want a real, genuine person to tell them their perspective.

Once the internet gets filled with AI content, the masses will yearn for real personal experiences. Those are the ones that will stand out. So, let’s not be afraid of AI. It’s okay to use these AI-generators to your advantage (as tools), but they will never take away your personality.

Why Start a Blog With All the Competition Out There?

This is a misconception I had to unlearn myself. Everyone told me that starting a travel blog was useless. It’s called Designing Life, and it’s a gay travel blog with a lot of adult-only posts. Pretty niche, right? It still generates thousands of dollars!

That’s because even with the massive amounts of travel bloggers out there, I am still a unique individual with a unique perspective. I can offer an opinion that Blogger A and Blogger B cannot. This truly matters.

And while I told myself I would never become a blogger who blogs about blogging, here we are. I started Artsy Boss because many friends always want advice on how to travel more and be as free as me, and I think blogging and selling digital downloads are the best ways to do it. But I will also use this blog to do more artsy things since I love art. While this blog is new, I have a lot of experience in the world of blogging. And how to help you start a blog and make some money.

Is starting a blog worth it in 2025?

Starting a blog in 2025 is a great idea and a powerful opportunity to build your personal brand, generate passive income, and establish yourself as an authority in your niche. Embrace this journey and discover the potential that awaits you!

But Wait, I Don’t Know How to Write

Use blogging as an opportunity to learn your writing skills. Chances are your first blog posts will not be seen for several weeks, so even if you’re a bad writer, it’s okay. Learn from your mistakes and go back and edit.

That’s how I started. You can probably still see some of my really bad blog posts on my travel blog. I used it as a platform to learn and grow.

Is Blogging Still Profitable in 2025?

Blogging is still profitable in 2025. It’s as profitable as ever, but it’s mainly up to you and how you want to monetize it. There are many ways.

Each travel blogger makes money in different ways.

Here are some ways you can monetize your new blog:

  • Promote products and earn commissions with affiliate marketing
  • Sell eBooks or digital downloads of your choice
  • Use Google AdSense or Mediavine for ad revenue
  • If your blog gets big enough, brands will pay for exposure

Those are a few ideas to start making money, but they will differ depending on your blog niche, personality, and skills.

Why Start a Blog Today in 2025?

There’s nothing like having your own blog. I used my blog way before I started a social media account for it. It even brought in clients who liked my writing or my art skills and hired me from my blog alone.

Social media posts have a short lifespan (depending on the social platform), but blog content ranks on Google and drives traffic for as long as the topic is relevant. People still use Google to find answers, and well-optimized blog posts can generate visitors for years.

A Blog is Your Own Platform

Social media platforms change algorithms constantly, and with the US threatening to ban TikTok (or banning and unbanning), your blog is yours for as long as you want to keep it up. No one can take down, restrict, or demonetize your blog without warning, especially if your blog is on your own website.

It Builds Authority and Credibility

If you’re trying to build a small business and make money from your blog, blogging about a passion of yours builds authority and credibility. Eventually, people will see you as a trusted source of information.

Get Leads for Other Businesses or Your Own Business

If you sell services, coaching, or digital products, a blog can attract potential customers organically. Email lists built through a blog can convert readers into paying clients.

It Doesn’t Cost a Lot

Blogging is one of the cheapest online businesses to start. A domain, hosting, and content creation tools cost little compared to other business ventures. Or if you don’t want to pay for hosting or your own domain, you can always opt for a platform that lets you write for free. However, this has other downfalls that I will touch on in a later post.

Endless Repurposing Potential

You can use one blog post for all other social media platforms. Turn the post into:

  • Social media posts
  • Pinterest Ideas
  • X/Tweets
  • Threads
  • TikTok Vids
  • YouTube videos
  • Email newsletters
  • Ebooks or guides

What Do I Write About?

This varies for each individual but think about your passion. It can be anything. Are you into hiking? Do you love to knit? Or maybe you’re a highly technical DIY person; starting a blog using a topic that you’re passionate about will guarantee you don’t get bored of your blog.

I love to travel, and I love to write about my experiences when I travel. So, when I started my travel blog, I was very excited to wake up every morning to write a new blog post. I posted several hundred blog posts in my first year, but I didn’t even realize it.

How do you do this? Make a list of things you are passionate about.

Next, make a list of things you know a lot about. Then, make a list of your hobbies.

Do any of these resonate with you? Can you write about one of these topics?

Is there a topic of conversation people can’t get you to shut up about? This is a good opportunity to write all about it.

Use a mind map to help you with this; tons of people sell these on Etsy. They’re usually very inexpensive and downloadable. You can purchase one, print it out, or type on it. Here is one example: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1730279476/printable-mind-map-planner-for-creatives

But in all honesty, you should start a blog today. Yes, in 2025. Start a blog if you’re trying to make some extra cash. Do it as a hobby (if you don’t need the money). Perhaps do it to show off your skills and let the world in on your passion. Blogging is very lucrative, and it can give you the freedom you are looking for.
